Britain’s National Gallery has announced it will use almost half a billion dollars in donations to open a new wing that will allow it to expand its collection into modern art. The gallery, founded in 1824, has focused on Western paintings up to 1900, leaving modern works to places like Tate Modern. The new wing will be built on land owned by the gallery that is currently occupied by a hotel and offices. The gallery received its largest donations ever, including 150 million pounds each from the Crankstart foundation and the Julia Rausing Trust. The gallery says it will collaborate with Tate to build its post-1900 collection, enhancing its offerings for visitors worldwide.Read More
