The Indigenous Akuapem people in eastern Ghana have celebrated their military victory over the Ashanti Empire 200 years ago. This battle helped shape modern Ghana. The Akuapem Odwira festival, which began on Sept. 21, includes a re-enactment of the battle, purification rituals, and thanksgiving. Participants wear traditional Kente cloth and gold ornaments, with drums and dancers filling the streets.
