My Video Interview with Author and Legendary Tech Investor Michael Moritz

I had a fascinating evening at Manhattan’s 92Y with Sir Michael Moritz talking about his new book Ausländer: One Family’s Story of Escape and Exile , which excavates the history of his German Jewish family, many of whom perished in the Holocaust. A former journalist whose Midas touch as an investor took him to the top of Sequoia Capital, he reflects in the book on how displacement and vigilance can both wound and drive ambition. He calls the book disturbingly relevant to contemporary America, and describes a warning his parents gave him as a child: “If it did happen somewhere, it can happen here.” when I asked him the question he would ask his mother today if he could, his answer was as vivid as it was unexpected. We also talked about Silicon Valley’s obeisance to Trump, why you can never have enough passports, and the two companies he thinks will win the AI race.
