STORY: From OpenAI’s DeepSeek frustrations to Amazon’s satellite lift-off, this is Tech Weekly.:: Tech WeeklyOpenAI warned U.S. lawmakers about the actions of Chinese AI startup DeepSeek.A memo seen by Reuters showed the Sam Altman-led firm believes DeepSeek has tried to replicate U.S. models and use them for their own training.The technique is known as distillation, where older AI models evaluate the quality of answers coming from a newer model – which effectively transfers the older version’s learnings.DeepSeek and its parent company High-Flyer didn’t respond to Reuters’ requests for comment.Russia has completely blocked WhatsApp.The Kremlin accused the Meta-owned messenger app of not complying with local law.Moscow suggested Russians should instead turn to a state-backed ‘national messenger’ called MAX.But critics argue MAX is a surveillance tool, while Russian authorities deny this.Britain could ban children under-16 from social media as early as this year.It could also close a loophole which left some AI chatbots outside safety rules.It’s part of government efforts to respond faster to digital risks.Spain, Greece and Slovenia have also said they’re working on bans after Australia became the first country in the world to block under 16s from social media.Europe launched its new Ariane 64 heavy-lift rocket.It carried 32 Amazon Leo satellites with it and sent them into low earth orbit.it marked the debut of the most powerful version of the Ariane 6 launcher developed by Airbus and Safran joint venture Arianespace.Amazon Leo is a low Earth orbit satellite network designed to provide internet service to customers beyond the reach of existing terrestrial networks – and could rival SpaceX’s Starlink.And Samsung said it’s started to ship its most advanced HBM4 chips to unamed customers.It’s trying to catch up to rivals supplying critical parts for Nvidia AI accelerators.The global rush to build AI data centers has fueled demand for such chips.The semiconductors feed massive amounts of data to the accelerators for training and running AI models.Read More
